Mulberry is a gorgeous bright yellow. This is a lot that was the second largest standing tree in the country. We have 13 pieces available in all different sizes.
Along with Black Locust and Osage Orange they are the three wood species renowned for their exceptional natural rot resistance. Meaning they can withstand outdoor exposure without chemical treatment and are one of the most durable species in North America.
Unlike Black Locust and Osage Orange mulberry trees have relatively short lifespans, not living more than 50 -75 years. Their spreading crowns and branch structures tend to collect rainwater, which promotes internal decay. Ironically, while the tree itself may succumb to rot, its heartwood is among the most natural rot -resistance woods.
Heartwood is the older inner core of a tree trunk. It is no longer living tissue but provides strength and support to a tree. The Mulberry heartwood is especially valuable because of its durability and makes it great for outdoor projects that need to withstand the elements such as outdoor furniture, signage and tool handles.
They are also fun for projects with epoxy and can be prone to small burls which add character to the wood itself.
